The Shinkun West Expedition is a serious 6000-metre Himalayan climb, designed for mountaineers seeking advanced altitude exposure and technical terrain. Standing at 6,153 metres, Shinkun West demands strong preparation, prior experience, and disciplined execution. This expedition blends challenging alpine climbing with a rich cultural journey. Starting from Manali, you’ll pass through scenic mountain villages like Jispa before entering pristine high-altitude wilderness. The route follows ancient Himalayan trade paths, leading to a quiet base camp surrounded by glaciated ridges and towering peaks.Unlike 5000-meter peaks that focus primarily on endurance and acclimatization, ShinkunWest demands sustained physical strength, disciplined pacing, technical confidence on snow and ice, and strong mental resilience. At over 6000 meters, oxygen levels drop significantly, temperatures plummet, and weather windows become narrow. This expedition is therefore recommended only for trekkers who already have prior high-altitude trekking or mountaineering experience.

Check into your hotel and spend the day at leisure, exploring Manali’s vibrant markets, ancient temples, and the lush green surroundings. The day is kept relatively easy to assist with acclimatization and final preparations for the ascent.
Day 4: Acclimatization Hike and Load Carry to Camp 1 (5,100 m) Duration: 5–6 hours Today's objective is both acclimatization and logistical preparation. Trek toward Camp 1 while carrying a portion of the equipment and supplies required for the climb. The route gains elevation steadily through rocky slopes and glacial terrain, rewarding trekkers with impressive views of the Shinkun Glacier. After depositing gear at Camp 1, descend back to Base Camp for the night.
Day 5: Move to Camp 1 (5,100 m) Duration: Around 4 hours Leave Base Camp and make your way permanently to Camp 1. Upon arrival, establish camp and spend the remainder of the day resting, hydrating, and preparing for the higher sections of the expedition.
Duration: 3–4 hours Ascend from Camp 1 to Summit Camp through steeper alpine terrain. Sections of the route may involve snow, ice, and exposed ridges, demanding concentration and steady progress. As elevation increases, panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape become increasingly spectacular. Reach Summit Camp, rest, and make final preparations for the summit attempt.
Duration:10–12 hours Begin the summit climb in the early hours before dawn. Equipped with crampons, ice axes, and other technical gear, navigate snow-covered slopes and challenging ridge sections en route to the summit. The climb requires determination and endurance, but reaching the top rewards climbers with breathtaking views across the Himalayan ranges.
